This whole thing has become so complex that even economists don't see the outcome. So many different opinions on QE.
One Market Predictor, claims we most likely wouldn't make it past last Dec.

Some say the sky is falling and with every tiny ripple of woe the market takes a dive meanwhile, rich folks and company's earn a bundle while little people are rocked to and fro in the boat, some fall out, but (who) cares?

Only horace here's a (who), otherwise nobody else cares to listen.

The common joke is that if you took all the economists in the world and laid them end to end they would still not reach a conclusion.

How can economists be so terribly wrong and divided?
In Europe, they are now trying to decide if austerity is a good or bad thing.
How can they be so divided?

If the economists cannot get it right how can one expect the lay person to understand just a tiny bit of it?

To save or not to save, that is the question.

Imagine you were a hard working conscientious person, never gambled, never lived extravagantly, always lived within your means, and saved a little bit in a savings account for your old age.

What do your savings represent?

It is supposed to represent a surplus. But we know there is no surplus. It represents a debt on future workers, i.e. you are hoping that your savings will provide you with goods and services from future workers to take care of you in the autumn of your life.

Inflation will eat away at your savings. That is why governments like a little bit of inflation, not too much. With inflation, you repay your debts at a lower cost. Inflation benefits those with debt and penalizes savers.

To compensate for inflation you need to earn interest on your savings, at the very least at the rate of inflation. In order for every one to earn interest you have to grow the money supply. That is what bankers do. They grow the money supply by issuing loans in order to generate interest. It is a ponzi scheme until some people catch on and the bubble bursts. That is what is happening now. QE is pumping more money into the system to prevent the bubble from bursting. But that only postpones the inevitable.

Spend or save your money? Neither will work.

The question is what do you do with your time. The solution at this point is to build resilience into the system. Build resilience for yourself, your family and your community. Build networks of people who can help each other.

Join or create a coop.
Move your money to a credit union.
Start or join a community garden.
Join a Transition Initiative movement.
Trade in local currency.
Think locally.
Push for human scale communities.

How can they be so divided?
Easy if there are more than 1 person involved in the decision. Very easy if more than one political entity is involved as each think their constituents deserve a larger share of whatever is being divided.

Former Speaker of the House, Tip O'Neil of Massacheuttes once stated that "All politics is local."

Actually I have the impression that they really try to solve the unsolvable.

@MRChips

"Bubble bursting". According to you, how exactly do you imagine this will happen?

I'm not sure that investing in gold is a good idea. If you expect it to fluctuate in the short term maybe but who knows if it will again be established as a means of exchange?

I think it makes more sense to invest in MrChips suggestions. Plus increasing your knowledge in whatever you can. Being able to do a lot of stuff by yourself decreases your dependency on money.

Cities are getting smart, you need a permit for a community garden. Whole Foods

are taking over the food market, high prices for fresh food...The concept is now

political. @Pra , I was looking at $200.00 increase,maybe..lets watch and see

what would have happened on paper in two weeks.

I am not going to try and be Gerald Celente and predict the outcome. However, there are a number of possible scenarios happening.

1) We can see what happened in Cyprus happening elsewhere. Governments can freeze all bank accounts and give every one a haircut.

2) Another way of doing this is to issue new money. This has been done many times in history.

3) When things get really nasty, people will take things into their own hands and take to the streets. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is getting prepared for this.

4) Various administrations may decide starting WWIII will take care of the crisis.

Most pawn shops try to buy gold, not pawn...they like to melt it down right away.

So that limit a buyer market. Its a seller market for quick profit. Hold in your hand

gold is hard to find. This is good off-topic information.

There was a story earlier this week about the basic thing you guys are talking about. But it was quickly killed in the news.

There was in 2010 a 'paper' published, by Reinhart & Rogoff. It was never peer reviewed, but because it fit the model that all the "big players" in economics favored it was treated as gospel.

Then along comes a grad student from University of Mass. that asks them for their data. And they give it to him. Guess what, they, Reinhart-Rogoff made a couple of big mistakes and he caught them. The R&R paper is used globally to figure economic policy.

Here's a link to the story; http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/30/o...h-a-response-to-reinhart-and-rogoff.html?_r=0

And a link to the Herndon paper that caught them; http://www.peri.umass.edu/236/hash/31e2ff374b6377b2ddec04deaa6388b1/publication/566/

They tell people and the public knows they are going to be ripped off,but if they

invest there is no choice. You have to pay the buying and tradeing fee's.

The self tradeing internet companies now tell you about the fee's,when the

internet tradeing started they made believe that you only paid a day fee for

useing the day tradeing.

There's a list here that includes ones we don't use any more:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_British_bank_notes_and_coins
The pictures at the top of this page are the ones we use now:

I just checked Ebay to get a rough price. The actual value of the gold (3.99 grams of 22 karat) is around $173, but it's worth a little more to collectors because it's from 1918.
