I need a racoon detector.

I also expect it's unlawful to put a bullet between it's eyes.
While I cannot speak to Floridian law - 'Round here 'discharge of a firearm within city limits' is permissible (i.e. 'forgiven') where one can show cause -- The reasonable perception of threat posed by a 300 lbs hog would, in most instances, constitute 'cause';)

That said - I recommend you contact whatever agency passes for 'animal control' round there...

Best regards

As regards 'detection' - I suggest a 'WIFI' camera featuring IR illumination and silent 'pan and scan' functionality -- My $0.02:cool:
You should have advised him to get the unit with a "masked bandit" mode. I have the older one that only beeps when it recognizes black and white images of Clayton Moore's face - curiously, it does not detect Racoons.

I wasn't suggesting anything as sophisticated as pattern recognition:confused:;) -- Merely dedicate a monitor (or a 'window' on a PC/TV display) to the camera's output:cool:

Come on, if one has more "idle system" as the biggest use of clock cycles, a computer is only wasting energy instead of computing. I'll send a note to mr Snowden to get some facial recognition advice. Or, I'll just assume he was alerted to this post through obvious processes.

Behold the 'global effects' of the political threads!:(:(:(
I thought it was just simple minded illiteracy on his part being it's been obvious for some time now that for him getting the correct context of what is said in many threads seems to be very much beyond his capacity on a near constant basis. :(

I mean he obviously thinks asking for suggestions from other who likely have dealt with similar problems is whining and that cat food put out for pet cats is deliberate bait for raccoons.

Maybe you need to sit down with him for a while and have a good informative reading lesson on how to get the correct meanings and overall contexts of a topic in both the immediate sentence, the general paragraphs plus overall topic of discussion. ;)

Or should I just start hitting the 'report' button and let moderation work with him on refining his semiliterate reading skills into something that resembles those of a socially functional human being for a while? o_O

Tattle or don't tattle as you see fit. It is your thread, snowflake.

And, just for the record, I didn't mean to confuse you when I called cat food "raccoon bait". I thought it was common knowledge that cat food is great Racoons bait. Google is your friend - try, "cat food" "Racoons bait". You'll see that all the good trapping forums and home handyman forums recommend marshmallows and/or cat food (among others).

County Zoning and Land Use it is...as soon as Monday arrives.

That said, I would never rat out my neighbors for minding their own business on their own land, but this hog has escaped more than once and I live in a city because I have zero skills with farm animals. I wouldn't know whether to talk nice to it, try to guide it with a stick, or come armed for bear.

Too late don't care anymore.

Aye! So it's livestock as opposed to a feral hog? -- That greatly 'eases' matters inasmuch as it takes the DNR 'out of the loop', as it were!

So... Your neighbors operate a ranch within corporate and/or annexed city limits??? - and such operation is permitted!o_O:rolleyes::mad: --- That puts me in mind of a 'dated' TV comedy wherin two class A No. 1 jerks did likewise in, I believe, London?... I don't recall the tittle of the program (and Google, as usual, is of no help:() - Oddly, I do recall said odious (odoriferous?) characters' given names - to wit: Tom and Barbarao_O

Very best regards

I don't think so. That's why asking for enforcement of the local (R-2) zoning regulations might be of some help.
I wouldn't say anything if the hog stayed in the yard with the other hog and the donkey, but meeting them at night, with not a clue how to address them is, dare I admit...frightening.:(

Some of the kids I grew up with were pig farmers and what little I ever understood from them was to plan for all three.

Be nice and nudge along with a stick but still be ready for battle. They bite and it not just warning nips. They will take large chunks of flesh out when they do.

Theres a reason that being tossed in a pen/pit full of hungry pigs with no way out is a way of torturing someone to death.

IMO Wariness of unfamiliar large or otherwise potentially dangerous animals is a healthy 'proclivity' that others would do well to adopt!

I believe it! -- Heck! Merely standing downwind of those critters compares unfavorably with exposure to concentrated HCN!:eek::eek:
