I have been told I can't just mount a gun on a three axis surveillance camera servo system and fire it via remote control or I will go to jail. :(
Who told you that? did you confirm? Where can I find info on this? (I've looked in the past, couldn't find anything)

Brother and niece are into RC stuff plus hunt and the local sheriff is one of our neighbors and he and his kids hunt on our land as well. It has been discussed with those 'in the know' on that sort of stuff. :(

Remote control firearms of any caliber in civilian hands is a big no no and then some. ;)

But, I was reading the ticker tape just awhile ago, you can conceal carry in ND without a permit now among other things eliminating much of Obama's gun control law.

Law abiding citizen was a key point and notifying the local authorities.

Wow, that is some insane efforts but I totally understand. I've hauled out quite a zoo over the years. My cats are keen to make the house their private game reserve, so they practice catch-and-release. I've learned that the chipmunks are easier to chase out an open door than to re-catch and carry out.
Same issue here especially now that the snow is melting. Once the drifts around the house are gone I have to do a dead critter FOD walk to clean up every dead thing that didn't make it into the house for being an interactive being a kitty playtoy.

Last year I picked up over dozen mice alone within 20 feet of the house when the snow melted and that was just what was still in a large enough piece to identify and be worth picking up.

I didn't know and largely still don't. I don't have any guns other than two ancient 22s and that's it. I do occasional old school target practice and that's it. Most of the gun laws are foreign to me so I only go by what I am told by those who do actively use them.

As for obama's regulations I am pretty sure my state ignored them when they were in effect any way. :p

I personally don't carry, cause I know 1 out of every 10 do in my state and many are intimately aware how and when to use a firearm. Most of the time I'm with those very same people including my oldest daughter and her husband. My son has firearms downstairs, I just personally don't see the need, don't care to own them. Put one in my hands I'm an ace compared to some people, my brother was a sniper and runs in the family.

A little bragging, I hit a dear at a little over 200 yards away on a dead run, within 4 inches of my intended spot. Good enough for me. It was to easy, at that point I felt the sport part was lost and I can purchase food or farm animals cheaper. If I go to the hills it's just to go and drink bear and play guitar by a fire with my friends.

Anyone got any ways to remotely detect the difference between cats and a raccoon on a deck and trigger an alarm?
Watch for dirt in the cat's water dish. :D Those rascals are very fastidious -- They wash their hands before eating.

I was feeding cats outside and would occasionally see dirt in their water pan. I suspected it was a racoon but was never quite sure until one evening I saw him about head high in a small tree. Snow was coming down heavily at the time but I still regret not trying to get a picture.

By the way, I live in central Denver only about a mile from Bronco's stadium.

1 #10 can of peanut butter
1 hammock
1 shotgun
10-12 shells
1 flashlight
1 bottle of shine

Open PB. Place on ground about 5-10 yards from hammock. Load shotgun. Sit in hammock and sip shine until coon comes for PB. Shoot. Remove dead coon, reload and repeat.

In case everybody missed that, it was a joke.
There is no way I could afford an MRAP, guided missiles, or even a case of grenades.:(
Wish I was on that page, sometimes I'm far serious and somewhat direct.

Needed it Jovial I like a good laugh. Thank you. :)

I know some people that could make those options more affordable. Darn near trade for work affordable if you have the right technical skills. (not welding of course.) ;) :p

Well that interesting! Especially since I picked up a drone a few weeks ago that some meth head let fly away with a recording of him and his meth pipe in hand recorded in 720p at arms length from the drones video camera he didn't know was on and recording him.

I got it in Fergus Falls Mn while visiting a buddy. He said it crashed in the parking lot where he worked a fee days earlier and since no one came by to claim it I took it. Scored a DJI drone (~$500 new on Amazon) and Gopro camera (~$150 new on Amazon) out of the deal!

And yes I contacted the Fergus falls law enforcement about it and when I send my buddy a laptop I reconditioned for him there will be a DVD with a copy of the drone camera footage for him to drop off for them to look at.

Also. I back tracked the drone flight path from where it took off from and compared it to google earth and it's an electrical contractor companies backyard and looking at the video the guys in it are very likely a couple of electricians who work there.

No raccoon yet tonight.

You are going at this problem from the wrong end (no pun intended). Place the water and food in a box. Put a door on the box that opens to your cat's meow. Teach cat to meow to open the door. This is want any self respecting AAC member would do. ;)

I have six indoor outdoor cats (down from 10) not just one. Some meow all the time some don't make a noise so voice activation is a no go.

I mailed off some industrial stuff today via UPS and they screwed me again (website info says one price, ~150 - $160 and the storefront nitwits don't have a clue how their system quoted me that so it came to ~$223 actual) so I am pissed off enough that I will probably just stay up tonight until the coon shows up just so I have something to kill for it.

We've ruled out thumb prints and voice recognition. RFID chips still seem viable.:)

I understand. There are days when I don't attempt to work because I know I'll just end up hitting it with a hammer.:D

I'm too cheap and lazy (old school) for that sort of stuff.

Video surveillance and wifi monitoring from the laptops seems most practical for now. The deck is well lit.

How's your coding skills? OpenCV is a image processing library (C), that might be used.

I've seen it / used it for tracking. A long time ago. And I understand it can be used for image recognition.
