Not only is the IC's price OTT, but it presumably will be delivered by a private chartered aircraft .....

I see it all the time on Alix. They post a ridiculously low price so that when you sort by price their item is at the top of the list but when you add shipping it is basically in the same price range as all the others. Also, the shipping prices from china have been steadily rising so the "cheap" stuff is no longer so cheap when their shipping charges are added on.

I have some theories/guesses. (1) they don't have any inventory left but don't want to close the listing so the feedback and reviews aren't lost (problem on eBay, probably other sites too), so instead of taking the listing down you just jack the price or shipping so high that no one would ever buy it, then re-adjust when you get more parts back in stock. or (2) shipping is non-refundable, so if someone buys it and finds out its a fake, they're eligible for a refund for the product, but not the shipping. or (3) it's a part that's not available any more but is used in some system where even at that stupid high price, it's cheaper to buy that part than replace the larger board or whole system. So they jack the price because they can, but again heavy on shipping so refunds are small.

Texas Instruments Have their own factories all over the world. They have strict rules about how their ICs are made. They have excellent quality control that many Asian companies do not have.

I hope your correct. But from experience AC-Delco parts made in China were made 2 shifts a day, put in AC packaging, and then the third shift was put in a "Cherry" box. All made in the same factory by the same workers. Cherry is a Chinese equivalent to GM.

Companies like TI have a brand name with value. It would totally idiotic for them to destroy that brand over legacy parts that are so much easier to make and maintain strict quality control using modern semiconductor Metrology.

We manufacture tens of billions of analog and embedded processing semiconductors annually, across approximately 80,000 different products, and deliver them to more than 100,000 customers around the globe. Our investment in internal manufacturing capacity provides greater assurance of supply, supporting our customers’ growth for decades to come.
