2N2222 and 2N3904 in plastic packages will be have the leads arranged like this (above).

Thank you Dick, printed it out and taped it to my wall. And the transistor checked out 9k.

 

Well, if it were not for bad luck, i would have no luck at all.
I have 4 meters, ( that's another story ), and 3 of them are not working. I was so disgusted that I haven't tried to figure out why.
One is prolly a fuse, another is still a mystery. It's not auto ranging and i had it set for the proper range, 20v and it returned zero. When I set the range to 200v, it read accurately.
The 3rd would not measure current in the 200ma range.
Sheesh.
I have retired for the evening in disgust.

 

Also, make sure your 1M ohm potentiometer is wired correctly. You are wiring it as a rheostat (current limiter instead of voltage divider).

I think it was $4 on the Apple AppStore.

Green is the more positive.

If a negative voltage is present (vs ground) it will appear red.

Yellow dots show relative current flow and move while the simulator is running.
