That water "pond" is likely a retention pond. They are all over the Fort Lauderdale area. The whole area is land recovered from the Everglades. What is that large pool of water?
Is there water in that area normally?
What happened? Did your genny succumbI hear I might have electricity by Friday at midnight...and I might not.
I'm guessing #12 is more of a "I can figure out how to get what I need or I'll live without it" type instead of a "I'll prepare for anything" type. That is, I doubt he owns a generator. What happened? Did your genny succumbOr did you merely exhaust your fuel supply?
Best regards

Hopefully you will get electricity soon but I have yo ask, why don't you have a generator? Sm,all portable units for intermittent use have become really inexpensive and are easy to maintain, just in case. Then too, up my way you really do not want to be without power during the winter as it gets cold real fast and pipes freeze real fast. At leasy Florida is warmer.Still very strange here. One house to sleep with air conditioning, but it has no usable sewer pipe or microwave oven, so I go to another house with no electricity for a cold shower. Then there is a third house with a grille always running so I can cook a burger or make coffee.
I hear I might have electricity by Friday at midnight...and I might not.
PIB typing on a borrowed computer. Quitting for now.
So first you're in a situation surrounded with women... and now you are eating burgers? (I'm assuming there's actual meat in them?)there is a third house with a grille always running so I can cook a burger
Jimmy, 74, knows he’s one of the lucky ones. No one’s hurt. The structure of his house and guest house are fine. His two powerboats were moved 35 miles away to safety. He also has a place to stay in a room above his restaurant in Key Largo, Jimmy Johnson's Big Chill, which was undamaged.
Fourteen miles south of his home, the real damage starts. Authorities don’t consider it safe to let people below Mile Marker 74.
“Don’t feel sorry for me,” Jimmy says. “I can rebuild. I have the money. I feel bad for people who lost their house and don’t know what to do. Those are the ones to feel sorry for, the ones who need help right now.”
Did you try placing the cup of water on top pf the generator's engine to warm it up?I asked a neighbor with a 7 KW generator to heat a cup of water so I could make coffee. He said,"No, not enough power".
This is @#12 you are talking about. Surprised he hasn't tried this:Did you try placing the cup of water on top pf the generator's engine to warm it up?![]()
Being vegetarian, that sounds like a pretty good supper, but I know its tough for you right now. I appreciate your giving us a taste of what you are going though, and that makes me thankful to not be in the same situation all the while making me unhappy that you are going through this.(some text removed for clarity)
Supper was cole slaw, grapes, and corn muffins. This could be good for losing weight.

@#12, just remember: things could have been far worse. It could have been me.Piles of broken limbs in front of half the houses, mostly oak. Half the businesses are not open. Can't buy milk, cooked chicken, or ice in bags. Sleeping in a place with 3 skinny old hags who set the A/C for 76F when it's 75F outside...so I went outside at 5 AM to cool off.About half of the wooden fences are blown down. Burger King doesn't have Whoppers. KFC isn't open. The grocery store doesn't have cooked chicken. It's easy to become vegan when you can't buy cooked food.
What happened the burgers, beer and broads?Supper was cole slaw, grapes, and corn muffins. This could be good for losing weight.
