How's the weather?

Colorado, front range. We are deep into the hottest winter on record. This week, they predict most days this week will be record setting. We normally get snow, but the storms avoided my house. We had the jet stream over us for too long.
Years ago, we had some forest fires in late summer. We are having the wildfires in March. Fire with a 50mph wind is very exciting. Each year we do more to protect us from fire. We are having metal roofs put on this month and I probably will drop a 50-year-old pine tree next to the house. I hate that but those trees explode with fire in the wind.

I thought it was chasing the spider that was stapled to the chicken.

 

 

No, that's not clouds, it's smoke from a 9,500+ acre "Hwy 82" fire that's been burning for many days now 2 counties below us and only 15% contained with over 100 homes and 30+ commercial buildings lost. Luckily no lives lost but mandatory evacuations in place. A few counties to the west it's a 35,000 acre fire as well as a few more in Florida just below the Georgia line. We are under "Excessive Drought" conditions, the highest rating, with a statewide burn ban and no lawn cutting after 10AM. Latest is the Feds are taking over control from the Georgia Forestry Commission and Emergency Management Services. No rain here along the coast for about a month and none in the next 2 weeks of the forecast. Constant haze due to smoke at ground level. There have been on average 35 fires per day statewide over the last few weeks. Most have been small and quickly contained and extinguished. It's so dry the armadillos are digging huge deep holes to get at the ants and grubs instead of their usual small cup sized ones and leaving the front and back yard looking like a prairie dog town that caused me to do a face plant in the front yard from tripping in one of them.

I watched as a mylar kids balloon got hung up in a power line (7,000 Volt) and got across 2 of 3 phases actually taking the line down where it flopped around on the street like a fish out of water. There are plenty of incidents where those mylar balloons have gotten across power lines creating havoc.
