Holy crap it snowed in Coastal Georgia. First time in ~30 years. And not just snow, ICE! Everything closed in preparation and a good thing because it rained, froze, then about 5" of snow on top of the mess. I-95s a mess as we don't have salt trucks and plows. I did hear they somehow salted all the bridges in prep for it. Power out and still no home generator but only ~12 hours this time. Still didn't have all my antenna work done after Helena blew through and now the ice snapped the top of the tower off from ice loading the antennas up it supports. Landed on the metal roof and haven't been able to see if it punched through yet. What a mess!

Isn't amazing how, 2 days after Inauguration Day, it feels like old times again?

Happy days!

Somehow GA DOT got hold of some big tanker water spreader trucks they use for dust abatement on dirt roads, loaded them with water and salt, and used them on the bridges and roads. Never heard of washing the roads with saline before anywhere but that's what they did. I-95 was shut down at the GA/FLA border. Governors enacted curfews and telling everyone except emergency vehicles to stay off the roads. Temp got into the mid 30s and started melting the mess but there is still lots of snow and ice on the roads tonight. The temperature is back down to 29°F now so it's all turning back into ICE! Time to sit tight and find something to work on. ALL of my antennas are down except for the 8' marine VHF fiberglass vertical mounted on the soffit near the apex of our roof. My tower survived all the hurricanes except Michael but it again broke at the pipe reducer coupling for the antenna mounting mast. I have a huge antenna mess to deal with. Off center multi band dipole, end fed long wire, sloper,10Meter Vertical, all down! Going to be like starting from scratch all over again. Helene had taken down one end of the dipole and the sloper and just got the insurance quotes approved to replace them (takes a bucket truck) but hadn't ordered parts yet so now it will be an even bigger order!
