Holy smoke, 104° F every day, spent a small fortune with my air conditioning guy visiting one or more times each week for the last three weeks. I will be glad when the cool rainy season starts, perhaps in a few days.

Thailand is entering its rainy season.

Here is a snip from a weather warning in the local press:
Today, Thailand’s Meteorological Department forecasted a 24-hour weather outlook, with the northern region experiencing summer storms characterised by thunderstorms, strong winds, and isolated hail. Some areas may also experience lightning.

Residents in these regions are advised to exercise caution during summer storms, avoiding open spaces, large trees, weak structures, and billboards. It is also recommended to avoid wearing metallic items and using mobile phones during thunderstorms. Farmers should prepare to protect their agricultural produce and livestock from potential damage.

(Emphases added so you would not miss the wisdom.)

Local superstition. A. Couple of years ago three workers in tin-roofed shelter in the middle of a rice field were struck and killed by lightning. Police took a phone as evidence.

Finally, after struggling for weeks to keep plants in my garden from succumbing to the heat we have many hours of rain this evening. As usually happens during the first good rain of the season, there are zillions of "flying ants" (termites I guess) in the air. Eventually their wings fall off making sizeable piles of ant wings that need to be cleaned up.

I love this event because it usually means that the weather is going to be significantly cooler for several months to come.

42°C (107.6°F) today ... yesterday we had a similar temperature but relative humidity was at close to 60% ... so we were cooking our butts off ... horrible.

And in today's news the forecast for next week hits a high of 47°C (116.6°F)

Across the southern Plains, Deep South and Southeast, tropical moisture will overlap with hot weather to make heat exhaustion and heat stroke a dangerous threat. Heat indexes could climb into the 110-to-120-degree range. Marathon Key, Fla., just netted its hottest five-day period on record, with an average afternoon high of 97.2 degrees. Wednesday featured a heat index of 118 degrees. Unprecedented water temperatures between 94 and 98 degrees are also threatening sensitive corals and marine life.
