Only two transmission conductors (large distances), less radiation losses, lightning capture before re-conversion, to name a few.

Max and Martniez, thanks for sharing that. Just one of those things I never really thought much about. Then too, figure that today it is much easier to get DC to AC than it was years ago. Pretty cool stuff.

Just a correction, it was the thyratrons that triggered the Ignitrons.

I'm glad I came through there when I did! I had perfect weather the whole trip. A bit overcast the day I went past Gresham but I will take it.

It sprinkled a bit when I was on the Empire Builder out of Seattle.

And I hear I just missed the earthquake last week in Seattle. I only experienced one in my life time and believe it or not it was in Pittsburgh. Never felt it but I was in the ballroom of the William Penn Hotel for a meeting. All of a sudden, all of the chandeliers started swaying. Later I learned that Pittsburgh was hit by an earthquake!

 

Rainy Night in Georgia but some cooler days ahead before it gets hotter n' blue blazes again.

It's been quite hot lately. 42°C (108°F) yesterday, and today's looking pretty similar. The thing is that it's also been quite dry, and I have to remember to touch metal objects with my knuckles first, otherwise a very annoying shock happens most of the time. Maybe that's how I fried a couple of MCU's a few days ago?

When the Humidity is low and it's really hot, they dry up. But, as soon as it gets muggy, Aug. It's feeding time.

Down here as soon as it hits 70s its buggy. We have a Tshirt that reads "Protect the Sand Gnat or we'll be up to our ass in Yankees.". They can best be described as a pair of Pit Bull jaws w/ wings. Tiny gnat with a fearsome bite and I've had them so thick you'd be choking breathing them in. Then there's Yellow Flies (small horsefly), Horseflies, about 10 varieties of Mosquitoes, ticks, chiggers, and Love-Bugs. Name for their habit of flying united in the act. They don't bite but your car windshield and grill/front of the car gets caked in them and are hard to remove. Even in the winter if we get a warm spell and the temp hits 70 watch yer ass and carry DEET.

I got bombarded by Love-Bugs once while riding my bike in Florida. Ouch. They had these wash-rings at the rode-side stops, I rode the bike through a few times to get the goo off.

First rain of the season... at last! ... the last few weeks it's been hellish ... and now, it's pouring out there. Just got home after a short drive and in some places the water reached the bottom of my car's door. It's a miracle the engine didn't die on me.

It's one of those feast or famine things. When we go long periods without rain when it rains all the water has nowhere to go.
