Residents of Duluth Harbor, Minnesota, were witness to a spectacular phenomenon Sunday, as a wall of 'steam', hundreds of feet high, rose from Lake Superior.

Created by warmer lake waters evaporating in the -18 degree air, the churning cliff of fog was stunning but harmless.

I don't think that great lakes freighter really moves that fast in a harbor especially transiting by a drawbridge. That video obviously wasn't "real time".

That freighter is approximately 1000 feet long. It can make about 16 knots, max.

It's a cool video, nevertheless.

 

We had as low -2˚F yesterday, starting to warm this morning 12˚F. The killer is air quality, Utah Valley is a soup bowl worse than Burbank California.

It's going to be 79 here today. Right where I normally keep the air conditioner.
Good day to work in the back yard. It will be like working in an air conditioned garage.

Bad news. It's a lot sweatier chopping down trees at 79F than it is sitting in front of the TV at 79F.

Turning on the air conditioner so I can go in the house and cool off (until I stop sweating) every half hour.
