We finally got an itsy bit of rain last night here in Monterrey. And it had nothing to do with Hurricane Hillary.

 

 

This shows how quickly a flash flood can kill you in normally very dry areas. Heavy rain in the hills can fill dry beds in seconds.

 

The wildfires are out in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada.
Evacuation orders have been lifted and residents are allowed to return to their homes. An evacuation alert is still in effect. About 200 homes and structures were lost in West Kelowna. The fire had jumped Okanagan Lake to the City of Kelowna on the east side of the lake. Three homes were lost on the east side.

The wildfires came close to my daughter's home. Here is my 2½ year old grand-daughter with a big smile on her face thanking the firefighters for saving their home.

Idalia just blew through here with gusts up to ~50MPH with a few trees down plus an 8-hour power outage. Lots of Spanish Moss, twigs and small limbs everywhere on the ground and roads. We've had worse before coming in off the Atlantic but nothing like this from the Gulf. I got 1 bar on Verizon at best some of the time but unable to get any internet from them other than a few tunes intermittently from IHeart Radio. Yesterday was almost as bad with a HUGE thunderstorm in the morning with lightning knocking out the local phone companies' main facility so no landline or internet for over 12 hours but did get a bit of very slow internet via using Verizon's internet connection as a Bluetooth hotspot with the iPhone. Anyway, still safe here on the Georgia coast. Hope the Florida folks are doing OK...
