How to make this buzzer buzz ?

I took it out of the circuit that I am building just to see if it worked and I can't get to buzz. I am putting 6v dc directly to it and not a peep.
I tried to upload the data sheet so maybe it didn't work. It is a SEP-1172.
Hmmm the preview shows it as an attachment.

Hello,

There is a schematic in the given datasheet:

Amazing stuff. As you suggested, I wired that schematic and it is now close to being complete. At least the buzzing side works when I cover the sensor.
But I struggled quite a while with it for this reason.
Primarily I was confused because in the exercise circuit the --- negative ( ground ?) from the battery goes directly into the schematic.
However !
In the buzzer circuit, the --- negative ( ground ?) from the battery goes into a 1k resistor. So how the heck do I marry them together ?
I fought through these kinds of logics ( illogic !)
1) Can I keep them separate ? I think not.
2) Do I need the buzzer --- to be a sub set of the exercise?
3) Or can I use the buzzer --- for the whole thing ?
I think that I went with option 3 but I will have to check later. I was so darn happy that it worked that I called it a day. And I was a bit proud of myself.
Tomorrow I will do the IR bit.

But this begs the question of how do you wire something like this ? Where some of the connections are to buzzer ground whereas others are to, hmmm, (whole ground ? ) .
I don't know how to phrase it except that the buzzer seemed to be getting part of something rather than the whole something, whatever something is. Volts, amps, another, ?,.
Maybe I should post this as a different thread.

Again, many thanks
