How to make a speaker on simple IC sound louder

I have a clock that chime through a simple IC that have six connections, two for batteries, 3v (DC), two cnnected to the clock and two connected to a speaker rated 8 Ohm, 0.5w. However the sound is too low. Is there away to make the clock chime louder, by just changing the speaker? If so, what's the suggested speaker rating?
