How to find a folder/files in a Chromebook?

Hi.
A Chromebook had a bunch of files residing on the desktop that needed archiving.
Made a new folder on the desk top.
Dragged and moved the files to be archived to the new blank folder.
Renamed the folder.
Connected an external hard drive to the USB port.
Moved the folder to the external hard drive.
Nothing moved to the external hard drive, not even the new folder, cannot find a thing. Lost all.

The files to be archived have nothing to do with browser history nor browser downloads, but there may be some that were sourced from the internet or a camera or by typing months ago.

Any magic to find the lost folder/files ? Is there any deleted or in-limbo place to look ? It is not in the trash bin.

If nothing moved, wouldn't that mean the folder is still on your Chromebook?

I have never used a Chromebook, but they claim the OS is Linux. You should be able to use 'find' to look for any files that you can remember. They say the Everything Button can be used to find anything.

Thanks. Nothing on the laptop, nothing in the external drive.
Was trying to find an 'undelete' command in case files where still somewhere in limbo, but nothing. :(
