may b someone can help me, i am doin a university project where we need to build a device that will climb a ladder.

i have a DC motor and i need it to change direction every 10 or may be 15 seconds. what component can i use that will enable me to do this.

A double-pole double-throw relay can be used to switch the polarity of the applied voltage and reverse the motor.

 

Or, if you want to go solid-state, google on H bridge.

 

Years ago, In my youth,I built similar device using a stepped down motor and two limit switches . (Similar to a garage door opener's controls)
I remember the switches were double pole-double throw micro switches
