Who is to assume there is fault there at all? It's a situation nothing more... The CAUSE is leaving the blinds open, if you want light but like your visual privacy use wavy glass bricks.

I am starting to worry that with the amount of lobbying from all sides, it really does not matter what person X vs. person Y tells the voters as they will never know who is pushing his/her buttons. So, might as well pick the best looking and the one who is good with kids.

I have a tendency to project my own thoughts/revelations and learning onto the population at large, when that might not be the case. I think that people in general (or maybe it's just me) are becoming more and more aware of the extent of lobbying and great foul parody of a good idea that the election process is (or has become), but I don't perceive the sense of urgency associated with that I would expect. It's like most people know its a big joke, but they just go along with it. Like txt voting for candidates on American Idol - it only serves as some kind of amusement. Nobody cares; yeah, they just vote for the good looking one.

Sounds like you're describing OWS. That worked well. No, we go with the usual suspect - the government. They're the ones who lay down the law, and right now the law is for sale to the highest bidder. We need to remove large corporations' avenue for bidding. Even if we could get every American on the same page to boycott every large corporation, what would we achieve? not much. We depend on them - don't bite the hand that feeds you. But, also don't let that same hand assault you like the medical industry.

BTW What do you have against Apple? As far as I know, they just sell overpriced gadgets which nobody is required to buy. Nothing like banks who own us or medical industry who rapes us or insurance industry who holds us down for the medical industry.

that's the point - to remove the dependency on large multinational corporations. Then they will not have the power they have now. I view medical and insurance the same way, they are huge industries that have to be broken down.

Just re-reading Catch 22 now, it is all in that book really, the american view of the world. Towards the end, Milo had his runs built up to a point where when he wanted to stop doing it he could not because no-one else could take over. I believe that is where we are so either keep going or let it collapse.

Basically people who are tired of big banks and wall street taking all and giving little. This being in the context of bailouts.

No I don't owe money to anyone but my father. That's not what I mean. I mean that banks create money, and therefore have control over its value. Even if I had no debt, I am under their thumb. If I had worked my whole life and saved millions, they could run up inflation and steal all the value of my lifes work. Then I might have to go to them for a loan.

 

The problem is, after out government loaning them billions interest free or very low interest, they are not passing it down, not loaning it out themselves, as they were supposed to have done. The idea was to keep them intact, and in so doing, keep out economy intact. However, money can hire lobbyists, whom seem to do a better job of getting our government represent special interests than the people they claim to represent.

I'm going to stop there. This thread is skirting on extremely political ground. OWS is a pure political movement. If this thread doesn't change course it will probably be closed as political.

I suppose, in a sense it is also a very subjective, topical matter because people are different in many ways for various reasons and have differing views and morals.

What might be considered invasion by one person (data collection and storage for example) might be deemed acceptable by another.

As people are not unified and beige (or grey if you prefer) the lines must be drawn carefully and must be flexible.

A global tailored information control organisation would be good, whereby users can control what happens to their data, on an individual basis.

Trolling for data isn't so bad in a way -- if you broadcast it long enough, something or somebody in this day and age will remember some/all of it. Reminds me of Star Trek's "V'ger" and the plot of Contact...

This won't stop criminals or determined users though.

But then, with different laws, countries, views, races, beliefs, traditions etc...

It's data use/misuse and storage that are primary issues. Not so much the retrieval.

IE: People NOT being consistent and beige/grey (and uniform in both texture and flavour) is where the proverbial is going to hit the fan, eventually.

PLUS! We do get "tailored" (using the term loosely) adverts from our emails and search/web history. Guugle did/does it for example. Stainless kitchenwares (not searched or browsed for ever, will post if it comes up though! It undoubtedly will when I get an email back from the forum/thread) in a plentiful array of cheaply made varieties.

I've just had a brief run through some of the comments about information that ends up on the net. Unfortunately now it's somewhat inevitable to keep our information private. If it's not google, it's your trash bin outside. If it's not your trash bin outside, it's your computer at work. If it's not your computer at work, it's your friend posting photos of you on facebook with your name.

Funny I mentioned to my kids that I just can't get stuck into facebook. As mentioned in a comment above, it's surprising to see kids put in so much personal information and photos of themselves and friends. Grabbing someone's identity is now becoming easier and easier.

My daughter is heavily into ballet and she uses facebook all the time to talk to friends and upload pictures. I asked her some time ago, "have you noticed how many adds open up when you go to facebook on topics related to ballet? You know that's triggered by what you say whilst in facebook. It's advertising". She was surprised! What was even funnier was my 20 year old son was in the room at the time and he yelled out "oh, is that why I get all that stuff turning up". Hmmm. What stuff!

 

I would say the local news papers have super computers or access

to them. If you make the news every thing real and suspected comes

out. I have been in the paper a few times,but nothing bad. If you do

some thing bad minor to big ,you can expect this is your life spread

out for days depending. The good people always want to see there

name in the paper some way,if only in a group picture. I have been

told by a ex-new paper man , that he knew where all the bodies were

buried,he also worked with the U.S. Attorny Office on a Investigation,so.

 

Google and the FBI share data and know everything about you. Big Brother really is watching!

I did read either in a state or nationally a company can't search your social network sites for your applications. It might just be CA or something but its a start.

 

I don't use google anymore and I got rid of facebook account a long time ago. I find it funny that if I were to search my name on the internet, mylife.com shows I still live in a city I moved away from nearly 3 years ago.Right around that time I dropped my facebook account. While I knw that my emplyer and friends know where I live now, no creep searching online will be able to find me with that outdated info.

 

I'm proud to say my name pulls 2 results. Ones a youtube video or me racing, the other is one of those spokeo we've found X records on XXXXXXXX So not sure if its real.
