Honeywell fan capacitor

Hi, I have been given a Honeywell fan hyf290e and the main fan does nothing. I thought the capacitor might be dead but it's not wired in! Looks like it was assembled incorrectly. Any idea which wires it should be connected to? The main motor has five wires and it's a mhd8216m23. I can't find anything on line. Thanks :)

OK, it seems like it must have been "worked on" by somebody who did not know what they were doing, but did ot let that stop them. I see a fair amount of that. So you will need to examine the wiring first to see if there were any connectors for the capacitor left in place. And you will need to be able to do some resistance measurements. I hope that you have a meter able to measure resistance.

I don't think it has ever worked, it looks like it was assembled incorrectly, the capacitor is literally connected to itself and nothing else! I have a meter but with 5 wires coming from the main fan motor and various speed settings under not been able to be tell where the capacitor should be.

The process is to measure the resistance between wires which can lead to knowing which are taps and which are ends of the windings.
But before any more, is there still a power cord connected to the fan? Are any of the wires connected to the control switch? If none of the wires are connected then it has been played with and itwill be time to use the meter and measure resistance.

Hi, the wiring was all intact, I had to cut the cable tie off to get to them which is when I discovered the fan capacitor was just connected to itself!! The buttons all work and the separate motor that makes it oscillate runs as it should when you enable the oscillation feature. Thanks for your input :)
