Thanks Bill, but I think I'm going to stick with my project. I want to start out easy and build a simple power supply and then I'll build a really nice one; more complicated too.

 

OK, but keep something like these modules in mind. They can get rid of a lot of largish parts, and get you right into the regulator circuits.

Ok, I've been working on some other projects, but now I have time for this one. I am wondering how to calculate what filter capacitor value I need for 5A of current. Can someone help? Thanks!

 

you shouldn't connect the outputs together, however you could use two or more to run different sections of your circuit, ie; one to run your digital, another to run relays, etc.
