That 's a long 40 mins to wait for the false alarm report.

At least Hawaii has real anti-ballistic missile assets on location.
Unfortunately, their fall-out shelters are no longer labeled, no stockpile of emergency supplies (no iodine tablets for citizens - just emergency responders), they were caught flat-footed because nobody knew what to do. A few hotels had standard procedures for general emergencies but not all general emergency procedures were the preferred choices for an incoming nuke missile.

Those things are mainly for show anyway with a 100kt air blast over Honolulu. We either stop the missiles or lose 100's of thousands of people.

Gov. David Ige said at a press conference Saturday afternoon that the error happened during a routine procedure that occurs as workers are changing shifts.

"An error was made in emergency management which allowed this false alarm to be sent," Ige said. "It was a procedure that occurs at the change of shift, enabling [us] to make sure that the system is working, and an employee pushed the wrong button."

Pushed the wrong button. The quality of worker has really gone down since Homer left Civil Defense.

The standard drill for eminent nuclear attack is place your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye.

Practice the drill all you want.

I want to look in to inventing a homing beacon so the thing will drop right on my head. I would not want to survive to live in the aftermath.

If nothing else, it should provide some valuable lessons regarding what to expect WILL happen if it ever becomes real, instead of just assuming that the public will react the way they think they will react. But the real question is whether the people responsible for handling such an eventuality are even going to seriously try to learn and, more importantly, apply those lessons.
