I was fortunate enough to be in Taipei during the New Lunar Year 1989.
And I say fortunate, because although I don’t celebrate it myself, I have gained an appreciation for the festivity.

Now, I only need now to be in Israel during Hanukkah!

I miss being in the Bay Area. There was always a big celebration in SF's Chinatown. They don't do much in my area; at least nothing I'll drive 50 miles for. The celebration in San Francisco was well worth a 50 mile drive.

I would think you'd want Rosh HaShannah, the new year. Or possibly Purim, which is very celebratory.
