Calgary Stampede commenced yesterday after being officially opened by the duke and duchess. We attended our first of many events which was a Police/Firefighters bull ride. Welcome to the many American and Australians who are excellent riders. 10 days of hard riding ahead. Here's hoping everyone has a safe and successfull ride to the top.

Over 700 horses will be employed in various events from chuck wagons, bucking, and barrel races. Unfortunately one was lost on the first day after breaking a leg in a chuch wagon run. Over 400 bulls will be mounted, and plenty of cows are riden by the 'gentler' side. Women's barrel racing is a full out obstacle run on horseback. Love those cowgirls. One of the many reasons that Calgary is also known as 'Cowtown'.
