I have a Gravograph IM4 engraver that I'd like to control with a PC or a microcontroller. It is designed to be controlled via an RS-232 connector, thus it accepts commands via this serial port. There is software available but I'm having trouble with finding the proper driver. Does anyone have any experience with this. Thanks in advance for any help. I'm hoping it will accept G-codes like a CNC mill.

I would say, "RS-232? No thanks."

But if you've got the thing, you'll have to find the instructions for what gets sent over the serial port and how the machine responds to it. Then you might get an idea of how to use G-code. But my guess is that it takes some proprietary set of commands which you'd need to deliver, and you'll need to know what those are. Plus get an RS-232 converter, unless you've got a computer of the same vintage as the engraver.
