No. And patents are worthless unless you have the resources and will to enforce them, especially internationally.

 

Unless it is fundimental, most companies don't even bother nowdays. They just keep their techniques a secret.

Traditionally, you have to get patents for each country it's patented in, (assuming each of those countries actually grants patents....not necessarily the case!) If you look at any mature items like machine tools and such, you'll see multiple patents. This is why it helps to have a patent agreement with an employer....they pay all the legal fees.....but at a price to you as well. As it turns out, you can still do pretty well with a patent the company owns. My dad had numerous patents through Boeing and other companies...and though he didn't get filthy rich on them, but he got his fair chunk of the dividends. The fact of the matter is, a lot of creative people still sign non-disclosure agreements, because it's still to their advantage. As with all other contracts, caveat emptor!
