I've little fear of planes but have a mortal fear of helicopters. That entire support animal thing was taken too far and never should have come about in the first place. My support on a plane? Xanax works just fine, since most airlines eliminated my double scotch rocks.

My fear of flying in planes came about when I was doing about 50K air miles a year with several mishaps. Helicopters for me were a nightmare after having things go wrong while I was in Vietnam. I simply do not fly well at all. OK, we know what an airliner seat looks like. Following a flight my seat was the one with two wet spots on the arm rest where I was clutching it with my hands. Also during my NAVAIR years fly ON and Fly Off an aircraft carrier underway would scare the hell outta me. All of this while I know statistically I am safer flying than driving. My wife and I did several cruises departing Fort Lauderdale and returning Ft Lauderdale. I drove from Cleveland, Ohio to Fort Lauderdale and back rather than fly. Go figure?I've little fear of planes but have a mortal fear of helicopters.
Flying to Vegas next week First Class on Alaska so booze is on the menu for the flight. My fear of flying in planes came about when I was doing about 50K air miles a year with several mishaps. Enjoy your flight. During my frequent flyer years we would catch a CAL (China Air Lines) flight from Taipei to Guam. They spared nothing. Roasted prime rib and when I ordered scotch they just set a fifth of Walker Black on my tray. They spared nothing. Again, enjoy the flight and Vegas.Flying to Vegas next week First Class on Alaska so booze is on the menu for the flight.

I flew Northwest Orient during my FE days for NAVSEA in the 80's to Asia from the US several times a month. Their First and Business class was great.Enjoy your flight. Every now and then a slight problem may arise.Boeing 777 airplanes had many engine fires last year.
A couple of days ago I saw an orange light in the sky and I thought it was odd because airplane lights at night are white, not orange. Suddenly the orange light went off and became the red and green lights of an airplane flying away from me. I looked at my airport app and saw that it was a 777 that had a take-off towards me one minute before then and turned around. Then Google showed that jet engine compressor stall is common and causes an engine to produce fuel overload and a ball of fire. The airplane continued flying straight.
Here is the airport app that shows all airplanes in the world: https://globe.adsbexchange.com/
MEXICO CITY, Mexico — Tourists were sent scrambling by loud bangs heard at the international airport in the Mexican resort of Cancun Monday.
Flights were briefly suspended after authorities received reports of gunshots at the airport, the National Guard said in a statement. But those noises were confirmed not to be gunfire, and instead were caused by three advertisement signs that were accidentally knocked down by a traveler, the airport's Emergency Operations Center indicated in a statement.
Even if it was gun fire, it's more dangerous to escape the airport and end up in that no-man's land between the airport and the beach resorts. The only safe place in Cancun is that strip of land between the hotel and the beach (or the shuttle bus that runs from the airport to the resorts). I don't know if things changed since my last visit.
