Update... It's been over 3 weeks and while over the worst of it physically we are still dealing with aches and pains while also still making the rounds of the doctors. The orthopedic guy is sending us to physical therapy so we still have to deal with that and apparently there is a dearth of Neurology practitioners so I have been unable to get an appointment. I am still dealing with the aftereffects of my concussion and from what our other doctors are telling me, the post concussive problems I am still dealing with are most likely what is called Post Concussive Syndrome. I still have a never-ceasing headache, queasy nausea, sensitivity to light and noise, and worsening balance problems over my already unsteadiness. I also started having neck pain which I didn't have immediately after the accident that is also a symptom of PCS. The Odessey was officially totaled and after a lot of online and dealership shopping, we found a good deal on a new Honda Passport AWD after looking at a lot of other possibilities. So, things are moving along and we can return the rental van. Next big hurdle will be whatever our lawyer is going to be doing about our ongoing medical issues. Starting to see a bit of light at the end of a very long tunnel...

And I bet the guilty party is starting to see a big dark shadow coming after him ...
The kid actually has the same insurance agent we do. Other than a traffic ticket for "following too closely" I think the rest will fall into the lap of the insurance company and if they don't want to play ball, I guess there are always the courts. Time will tell and right now, we're just dealing with it one step at a time. I only wanted to be made whole and not suffer any losses but that didn't happen with the Odessey being totaled so we have already taken a loss there. It only had ~80k miles on it and was in almost pristine condition so I was expecting to keep it another 5 years to get our full value out of it.

Hi,

Oh sorry to hear about that i know vehicles can be both important and a pain in the neck too. Going through some of that myself over the last year.
I hope you can get things back to normal soon.

Sincerely,
AL

More crazies with rocks.

Patient armed with rock chases EMT down Hwy 99 in SW Tigard
The EMT who was driving stopped the ambulance and went to the back of the rig to try and pull the patient off the paramedic. The patient then began “assaulting the EMT in the chest and throat,” police said.

The EMT got out of the ambulance, but the patient started chasing him with a rock along Highway 99W, according to police.

Police officers said they found the man still chasing the EMT on the side of the highway near Southwest Beef Bend Road.

Officers caught up to and restrained the patient using “less-lethal force,” they said.

Before they were taken out of service I was content with about $1,000 USD round trip NY to London taking about 6.0 hours. The 3.0 hour Concord flight was about $7,000 USD. :)

Ah, the good ole days when you actually walked out onto the tarmac and climbed the stairs into the plane! Come rain or shine! We still do that at BWK the Brunswick GA terminal for the Delta feeders into Hotlanter! As we say down here "You can't even get into heaven without going through Atlanta first".

It would be interesting to know what fraction of people that flew on the Concord could really, truly justify the expense. I'm sure there were some, at least in specific circumstances, but it's hard to imagine it being more than a handful. If nothing else, these were scheduled services, so shaving three hours off the trip did you no good at all if the plane's scheduled departure time wasn't just right.

I expect there were some folks that justified it on convenience grounds -- they want to see some show in London and are willing to sit on a plane for three hours each way to do it, but not for six. It's their money and they get to decide what is and isn't worth spending it on. Similarly, people that were willing to spend $6000 of their own money for the experience or bragging rights or whatever... fine.

But I also expect that quite a few of the people that "justified" it based on business arguments were really just finding an excuse to have their company pay for them to have a personal experience. I do have a bit of a problem with that -- I think it is a form of fraud, waste, and abuse.

Sad I was never a passenger:

Hi,

You might get another chance. Faster than sound aircraft slated to be in full service again by 2029.
You get to crash and burn in style :)

I hate sitting for 6 hours flying from NJ to CA it's one of the most boring things i ever did. If i could cut it to 3 hours that would be GREAT. If the fare was 7 times the normal fare though i could not justify it, it would have to be much more reasonable. Besides that, as the snail once said to the turtle while riding on the turtle's back, "SLOW DOWN! I want to get there but I want to get there alive!".
Hard to justify paying more to die sooner :)

Had a friend with more money than common sense. He was going to fly on the Concord just to do it. Literally NY to London and right back. I told him all I saw was a waste of money. :) He finally backed down from the idea.

This is a free market problem: the seat is worth what the market will bear. Too expensive, not enough customers, too cheap, not enough revenue or flights.

It's not up to any of us to decide if such a flight is a waste (or fraud) -- except for ourselves individually.

Nearest I've been to a ride on Concorde was a walk-through of the Concorde on static display at Yeovilton aircraft museum. :-(

I thought I made it clear that I don't care at all if someone uses their own money to pay. It's when they use someone else's that I start having an issue.

I'd rather sail on the Cunard Line. 7 days @ ~1300USD (Southampton to NYC) plus onboard expenses. What a way to go! Scheduling is a bitch tho...

I did the Amtrak ride to our son's wedding from Savannah GA to Seattle WA on their northern route and back and back on their central route, never again! Trains are definitely not what I remember from the 50s as a child and the meals that came with the tiny cabin are pretty mediocre at best. At 6'-2" I am convinced they are designed by "Little People" just to torture us big guys.
