Yeah, well... It's been sitting like that for quite a while from all the dead grass grown up around it and the body rust.

Perhaps he wanted to do a short-field takeoff (in GA terms) where one accelerates a bit more on the ground to attain a steeper climb angle and thus pass above the potential wake turbulence from the landing airplane.
