Yeah..that is it..thanks..The driver allows the high side to stay above the Vgs level to turn it on, when using a Mosfet or IGBT as a high side switch. When using one as a low side switch a driver will give more amperage than a logic level signal, to turn the Mosfet or IGBT on and off faster. The faster the Mosfet or IGBT switches the lower the heat generated in it.

Driving can and was also done with individual components. But a dedicated driver chip is easier and takes less space on a PCB, so they are used more often in today's world.Yea
