Hi all,
I have a very weird problem. I am using Codevision AVR to run the USART with ftdi usb-rs232-pcba. I have initialized every thing and using hTerm terminal and it works correctly. When I short circuit the Rx and Tx on ftdi usb-rs232-pcba and send something, receive it on the terminal but, I can't run it with micro.
C:
#include <mega324.h>
#include <delay.h>
#include <stdio.h>

int i;

// Declare your global variables here

#define DATA_REGISTER_EMPTY (1<<UDRE0)
#define RX_COMPLETE (1<<RXC0)
#define FRAMING_ERROR (1<<FE0)
#define PARITY_ERROR (1<<UPE0)
#define DATA_OVERRUN (1<<DOR0)

// Get a character from the USART1 Receiver
#pragma used+
char getchar1(void)
{
unsigned char status;
char data;
while (1)
      {
      while (((status=UCSR1A) & RX_COMPLETE)==0);
      data=UDR1;
      if ((status & (FRAMING_ERROR | PARITY_ERROR | DATA_OVERRUN))==0)
         return data;
      }
}
#pragma used-

// Write a character to the USART1 Transmitter

{

I wrote this simple program but receive nothing. PortB is just connected to a LED that I understands it is working correctly. I have double checked everything, baud rate, parity, stop bit and .... but no answer. Rx of ftdi usb-rs232-pcba has been connected to Tx of micro with same grounding. Can somebody help me?

1) Explain what this does:

(0<<PORT7)

2) Explain what is

DATA_REGISTER_EMPTY

You have way too many errors in your code.

Start off by writing a simple program to make an LED flash.

Start off by writing a simple program to make an LED flash.
Now the program turns on and off one LED (100ms) and I also checked the ADC by a separate prog and it is working. initialization has been done by Codevision.

Do you have an oscilloscope?

Try modifying the while( ) loop in your main program to this;
C:
while (1)
      {
      PORTB.0=1;
      delay_ms(100);
      PORTB.0=0;
      delay_ms(100);
      putchar1('U');
      }

Great worked, but what was the problem? :( why it worked with putchar1('U') but not with putchar('U')?

1) If you want to call putchar( ) then change all the names putchar1 to putchar.

2) printf( ) is a C library function. You need to find out how it works and how to redirect the output to your putchar( ).

3) Remove while(1) in getchar1( ).

Thanks but I called the stdio.h which is the library for printf! The question is why it does not work.

Do you understand what I wrote?

printf( ) is a C library function.
stdio.h does not know where to send the output. You need to tell putchar( ) where to send the output.
Look into stdio.h and see if there is a getchar( ) and putchar( ) function.

You need to read the CodeVision manual to see how to redirect the input and output.

Hi,
I switched from USART1 to USART0 with some wiring. Then I can access to all the functions. I also could run printf() and also changed the printf() to int function. see the attached. But still sending weird things.

Code:
#include <mega324.h>

// Declare your global variables here

// Standard Input/Output functions
#include <stdio.h>
#include <delay.h>

int a=5,b=10,c=15;

By the way MrChips, It is not necessary to get angry. It is problem solving.
