From speaker level to mic level

Hi,

I do not know much about different levels, but I need to get sound from a speaker output into a microphone input(using resistors?). Does anyone here know how to do it?

I built one of those back in 1976. It was just a 10k resistor in series with a 10k audio taper pot..all inside a metal box with a quarter inch connector on each end. Also, an output jack for "straight through". The guy that bought it used it between an electric piano and its speaker, then used the audio taper pot to send a proper signal to another amplifier.
