from 12V to 5V logic

In an embedded application I am trying to detect when switched power has been turned on, a 12V master voltage level. I am detecting it with a digital input on my processor. I am trying to determine how to best convert the 12V signal to 5V for the processor. I could use a voltage divider I suppose. I was thinking of using a level translator, but most of these ICs tend to be translating from 5V to lower than 5V or vice versa. Suggestions?
