Dear all,
I have been trying to differentiate between the two,i want to build a simple telephone transmitter for learning purpose but when i googled,all i see is Fm transmitter.
Is there any similarities between the two?

you mean you want to transmit your voice thru the air and not by cable.
Because to transmit something thru the air either using an FM or AM Type of modulation and a receiver on the other end.

thanks for your time,
I really want to transmit voice through the air.
My question therefore is. Do i have to make a receiver for it?.can't it be tested without making it's own receiver?

If you make an FM broadcast band transmitter you can use an ordinary FM radio as the receiver.
