I have a PC with WIN11 and I can't seem to use search to find a certain term within any file like I could in XP.
WIN10 was the same.
Anyone have the answer?

 

Doesn't Windows 'Search settings'/'Indexer settings' give you the choice you want? Presumably you would need to allow indexing of the whole drive, which would take a while.

 

Good luck. If you find a way to do it, please let us know. The search features have become progressively more crippled and hard to use.

 

I use the "find in files" feature of freeware editors like Notepad++ and Programmers Notepad. RegEx searches are a bonus.

You could always share the drive, connect to it with a Linux PC or Mac, use grep or a file manager search function.

 

Don't know if this helps, but I've been using FileLocator Pro for years, and it's a tool that I literally use every single day. I don't know what I'd do without it. It's invaluable and I cannot recommend it enough ... And it's free!

 

I've been using Agent Ransack for many years. It's free. It works on Win10. I've not tried Win11 yet.

 

I use ultra file search lite - also free.
