Finding A 2SC9013 / cd9013 transistor

I'd just use a PN2222 transistor. They're pretty similar. If you're in the States, you can get them at Radio Shack. Their 15 NPN assortment usually has 4 or 5 2222 transistors in it.

You might also use a BC337 or BC338. Watch the pin assignments.

Could someone tell me a part number or equivalent transistor to the 2SC9013 NPN transistor. The only other reference number I can find is CD9013 which doesn't appear to be available from anyone either.
If you're in the UK you'll probably have easiest access to European transistors, but if you can get American parts, what you have there is basically the cheapest NPN you can get, equivalent to the 2N3094--same pinout. As the Brits would say, a bog standard part. Here if you paid as much as 25 cents each for them you'd be getting ripped off (Radio Shack is a good place to achieve this).

A big 5 cents each at Jameco:

I do like the idea of a "potable radio". That's a project worth building.

JohnP,
The 2SC9013 is rated for Ic=800mA, and so is the 2N2222, BC337 and BC338.
The ZTX651 is rated for even more current.

The 2N3904 would not substitute, as it is only rated for Ic=200mA.

Great guys, thanks for the info.

In the UK the ZTX651 seems readily available, closest to the 2n2222 is 2n2222a which appears to be very similar.

But the ZTX651 costs about £0.36 ($0.65) opposed to the 2n2222a is £0.17 ($0.40) seen as I'm only needing about 5 or so it shouldn't break the bank.

The 2N2222A would be fine. The ZTX651 is a bit more robust. Your results will really depend on what the surrounding components look like. If you're replacing existing transistors, better find out what caused them to burn up in the first place. Electrolytic caps that are shorted or open can cause such failures.
