Hello everyone,

I am about to start a new project for an electrical engineering BTEC which requires us to produce a circuit using a 555 timer, the specification is quite open and I have decided to make a roulette wheel consisting of LEDs a 55 timer and a 4017 counter. I have found lots of circuits online which do this and I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on them? Which would be the best one to use?

Sorry for the lack of images but it will not upload the images properly so here are links to the pages with the diagrams. I was thinking myself of using the 555 circuits site as it seems to be the most straightforward and other people on the course say it is a reliable site to use. Any opinions would be helpful before I commit to ordering the components.

Thanks everyone.

Which one is "best" depends entirely on what the metrics are by which you decide whether Choice A is "better" than Choice B -- and you haven't given any indication of what your metrics are.

Sorry for the overall vagueness! There isn't much in the way of project specification however I was going to choose a circuit based on the overall complexity and time scale to build. They all look rather similar however one doesn't utilise a bipolar transistor and uses a variable resistor instead I wasn't sure how this would effect my final outcome and complexity to build. They all utilize a 4017 which I already know is a nightmare with its output layout so I would prefer the simplest circuit but I am struggling to see which one that would be.

Is your assignment to "produce" a circuit that someone else designed? Or, "design and build" with your own design idea?

Really a nightmare? If so, what do you expect for the future?

By the way, that chip was my first ever from the CD4000 family and with it I started with digital techniques. I learnt how it worked using an old needle multimeter to measure outputs.
