Feit outlet/USB ports combo voltage issue (usb)

Evening all,

So I put a couple of these Feit outlets in my boys' rooms.

While I know the OEM wart is the advised charging block for apple products, I just tested the USB ports out. One one outlet (same circuit in the house but different room) it worked fine. One the second room, the standard outlet portion produced 120V (actually it settled around 121) and worked as needed. However, the USB port on the outlet fluctuated while trying to show "charge" on the phone. After figuring out which tab was which on a lightning adapter I could see it was carrying between about 3.4 to 4.7 V. The first outlet has been installed for about 2 weeks. I just put the second one in today.

I'm leaning toward a bad unit since the wiring was a simple swap out, and I'm always careful to securely fasten the leads and make sure nothing is damaged when being stowed back in the box.

Any thoughts?
This is the outlet.

absolute garbage. Outputs .9A for iPad and .5A for Android phone. utterly unusable."

the reviews are all over the map.

There are some smarts in a USB charger, but I've had many charger fail out of the box.

I have 2.1 A/0.5A dual USB charger. Both outlets will charge a Garmin GPS. Onely one will charge an Android phone at 0.5A. The outlets are not labeled. The re-seller just re-sells.

There does not appear to any word that resembles "Apple compatible"

It either works or it doesn't. The device will generally not say what standards it supports.

Yeah. I figured. My wife ordered them while I was on the road for work. I didn’t mind as I needed the outlet parts anyway.

Tomorrow I’ll get another device with a micro usb and see if it fluxes too. Feels like a defective one with that voltage swinging like that.

They seem ok for AC use. She wasn’t aware of the Apple OEM preference.

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for those. Did you figure that controller is what was installed in the outlet?

The iPhone isn’t a 2A charger to my knowledge. The iPad might be but the phone, I thought was down between 1-1.5?
