Circuit diagram from manufacturer's User Instructions is attached.
9 of the 10 terminals on motor are connected No 2 (I think) is unconnected.
Wiring colours:-
1 Blue
2 Empty
3 and 4 White (thinner wires)
5 Red
6 and 7 Black
8 Grey
9 Yellow
10 Brown
How should I wire this up so that I can
a. Control speed
b. Reverse rotation
I have the original capacitor and most other bits but can't work out how to put things together.

Do you have a pic of the motor?
!ph AC induction motors do not control well, suitable for 1/2HP and lower and light duty, fans etc.

Dependent on what load you anticipate, at low RPM's It may drop out of run if loaded.
This is why most resort to a 3ph motor and a VFD.

Looking at the diagram I would say it's a Universal motor,( the white wires are the speed sensor, ) if you link the field windings and the rotor in series it should run one way, if all is good then reverse the rotor wires and it should go the other direction.
There's a tapped field winding , possibly for lower rpm.
In the diagram below Red is Live Blue is Neutral.

Revisiting it it does look quite possible, if so, it may have had the Motorola special IC for this purpose, the TDA1085 !

Thankyou! Just before I connect up, do I need the capacitor in the circuit and if so how to connect?
If the Motorola IC was originally part of the w/m circuit where would I find it (I still? have the original control panel).

Looking at the pcb I think the Triac is on the heatsink can you read the number on the device,, also what is the device bolted on the inside heatsink next to the coil? ( See picture)
