Thank you:

Those of us that don't think changing our current contract with government to solve some perceived defect du jour are not dinosaurs waiting for the end. I've seen too many despotic governments come to power and exercise that power with total brutality to even think about giving away rights of any kind. My personal gold standard for bad outcomes in the search of a Utopian makeover was Cambodia. Everyone always says' it can't happen here' until it does.
Nice. Use an example of revolution to explain evolution and use the phrase "gold standard" to make it seem logical. Cool technique.

Hi,
Sadly the street level of verbal abuse from Brits to foreign nationals living in the UK has increased since Brexit.
It's also happening on the social media web sites.
Even Polish immigrants are being verbally abused.!
Don't these abusive idiots recall the contribution that the Polish peoples made to the defence of our country during WW2.?
The 'Poles' also had a squadron of pilots fighting in the 'Battle of Britain', as did our American cousins in the RAF 'Eagle' squadron.

Fortunately it is a very small minority of people who are taking advantage of the vote to leave the EU that are causing this problem.
Our PM David Cameron told Parliament yesterday that the Police now have the power to deal with these abusers.

Many foreign nationals have lived and worked in the UK for many years, paying their own way in our national economy.

My advice the to the abusers, is to 'grow up and shut the heck up' and lets get our country back into economic stability.

It is a sad turn of events and only fuels the impression the elite have that UK citizens are uneducated.

It was also reflected in the campaigns on both sides prior to the vote, not addressing the main reason to quit the EU, namely article 5 of the Lisbon treaty.

It goes back to 2007 when Tony Blair promised the population a referendum on this treaty and then refused it, he effectively gave away our sovereignty.

It’s only in very recent years have we seen the consequences, when the EU supreme court repeatedly miss-interprets the principle of free movement, that is to “live and work”. They have ignored the “and” ruling that human rights give an individual the right simply to live in a member state.

Because of this we have been unable to deport foreign murderers and terrorists, the EU supreme court puts individuals rights, regardless of their undesirability, above the security of our country.

Back to the topic of Brexit -

The announcer from the Iceland - England Soccer game at Euro 2016 tournament in Paris said everything that needed to be said as England had a second major upset in a week. (I trust the translation of his screaming, emotional filled end to a game when Iceland won 2-1 to make the quarter finals). Maybe @Sinus23 can confirm the translation.

Pretty much the right translation. He went a bit too far for my taste but the English gave us some trash talk before the game so I can look the other way on that one.;)

Hola prof

I could not find any article 5 in the Lisbon treaty. From amendments to 3A it jumps to 6. Am I looking at the wrong place?

I then to think the northeast colonies benefitted the most. They manage to reduce the number of representatives from the remaining colonies the where is was almost even. That way, they had the votes.

Some want Texas to leave and other states citizens are also joining in the voice to rid the US of Texas. Don't they realize that CA and NY and FL would split those 38 delegates. Their States presence in Congress would diminish.

The British Government has set a precedent earlier this year when they asked the public to vote on something, then, when they didn't like the result, they decided to throw put the vote, throw out public opinion and his do what ever the hell they please.

Specifically, a Government agency asked the people of the UK to name a new polar research vessel. Various names were proposed and promoted on social media. The name that caught the attentions and love of the voting public was Boaty McBoatface. This suggestion soundly beat all other entries. Yet, the agency simply changed the rules after the voting closed. Even though the name didn't violate any morality or double entendre rules, they simply said they will not use that name. No concerns about their well-mannered citizens revolting or crying foul, they just assumed that everyone will understand and, the agency was right. No violence. No protests in front of government buildings. Nothing.

Now, I have a strong feeling this strategy will be attempted with Brexit vote. I'm taking bets - even odds on staying beyond 2-years from today.

Have fun, UK.

There was nothing binding about the naming of the ship. People were asked for suggestions on a website and some people had fun with it.

Also comparing Boaty McBoatface to Brexit is a little ludicrous.

Whether or not they attempt some strategy that was used in naming a boat, I'm certain they will still be a member two years from today. My understand (which is pretty superficial) of the process is that the U.K. must formally invoke Article 50, which they haven't done yet (nor has anyone expected them to invoke it immediately in response to the referendum) and, once invoked, that starts a two-year negotiation period to determine how the exit from the EU will take place. It's my understanding that they can't actually exit the Union during that time, so the absolute earliest that they could cease being members is two years from some date in the future, hence they will still be members two years from today (and then some, probably several years then some).
