What do you know.... metric-haters!
I have no idea why some get so hung up on units. I'm perfectly happy computing power in ergs per fortnight. What do you know.... metric-haters!
And you know, I think it’s possible that working in multiple units teaches one a certain discipline of checking and rechecking calculations for dimensional analysis and ‘reasonable-ness’. How many disasters are averted by this necessity?I have no idea why some get so hung up on units. I'm perfectly happy computing power in ergs per fortnight.
Here's some practice for you.And you know, I think it’s possible that working in multiple units teaches one a certain discipline of checking and rechecking calculations for dimensional analysis and ‘reasonable-ness’.
The overall lack of inter-disciplinary cross pollination of units of measure and general terminology has always been a sticking point in my life. And you know, I think it’s possible that working in multiple units teaches one a certain discipline of checking and rechecking calculations for dimensional analysis and ‘reasonable-ness’. A friend worked on computer programing to simulate the sensors of the Mars Viking lander. The program was used to train the ground crew. The overall lack of inter-disciplinary cross pollination of units of measure and general terminology has always been a sticking point in my life.
Imperial to Metric conversion is not a big deal for me but I hate entering a new field and having to relearn the same old concepts but under, too often, ridiculously stupid field of application terminology or dealing with those who over generalize what they are saying or want while often times using the wrong terms while doing it.
The EU will not allow a British city to become European capital of culture in 2023 after Brexit, dashing the hopes of Dundee, Leeds and others that were preparing bids costing hundreds of thousands of pounds.
The European commission said it would not be possible because only countries that were in the EU, the European Economic Area (EEA) or in the process of becoming members were eligible for inclusion.
Fine. Designate them British Capitals of Culture and save some money.
What American needs to have a comment either way?Fine. Designate them British Capitals of Culture and save some money.
Who needs Brussels' stamp of approval, anyway?
They want prestige. I'd much sooner visit British landmarks than generic European ones. What American needs to have a comment either way?
This is no surprise at all. The UK used to get their cheese and wine from France, their sausages from Germany and shoes from Italy and Porn from Romania. Now they will have to set up shops, farms, factories and studios to make everything they need in the U.K. -of course there will be lots of investment.Any comments from our UK friends?

But, not without a cost of immigrants and free movement or travel which is of concern. As a consequence of the rejection of the EEA membership in 1992, Switzerland and the EU agreed on a package of seven sectoral agreements signed in 1999 (known in Switzerland as "Bilaterals I"). These include: free movement of persons, technical trade barriers, public procurement, agriculture and air and land transport. In addition, a scientific research agreement fully associated Switzerland into the EU's framework research programes.
http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-35615604A central plank of Brussels' negotiating tactic with the Swiss was to insist that they could not "cherry-pick" the parts of the EU they thought would be most advantageous, such as its trade area.
Switzerland has signed up to free movement of people, with all the benefits that implies for workers and their families from the EU, and to Schengen open borders, all without ever being at the negotiating table at which those policies were drafted.
kvSwitzerland's hard-won bilateral deals are now in danger of unravelling over the question of its participation in free movement of people.
The Swiss government has not yet introduced any restrictions on EU workers. It is still hoping to find a way to do so that won't bring further punishment from Brussels.
But the signs are not good: as well as the stalled participation in education and research projects, key trade agreements on electricity and financial services (a much longed-for prize for the Swiss) have been frozen.
Only by the common folk. Not by their betters. The concept of countries without borders is a failed experiment that's being flat out rejected.
I see they did not appear to be pushing for the return of the old Roman origin/medieval £.s.d in place of the now metric money! What do you know.... metric-haters!
How come one would never see an MSM article entitled "Venezualan economic indicators defy democratic socialists' optimism"?
