i have a heat element works fine when hooked on its own cord, but burns its elements when hooked to acord about fifty ft long (element 115/120v-w 17/50)
other (element 115/120-w17/50). 40 watt breaker
any suggestions ?

Very likely there is a fan associated with the heating element that is used to blow hot air out of the unit.

I suspect that due to the voltage drop that occurs in the 50 foot extension cord, the fan is not turning fast enough to move as much air across the heating element as required to keep the element from burning out.

This is just a guess mind you, based on the information provided.
