I have a problem and I need a solution .

I need an idea on how to PINCH A string using an electronically operated device... ANYTHINg.. nothing expensive or big... i was thinking somethign around the lines of an electrically operated door lock or something...

would really appreciate your help..

Hi,

An open frame spst relay with a bit of gum on the contacts might do the trick. Be nice to know how thick the string and how hard the pinch...

 

The string is pretty thin...its one those used in a retractable key chain...

 

Can you use 12 VDC? If so you might try using a steering column/brake interlock solenoid from an auto salvage yard & an eraser or two for the clamp. [Power door locks are actually motor-driven rack & pinion devices & probably use more current.]

 

A strong electromagnet with a hunk of rubber on the end, which presses agenst the string.
