Your analogy here: http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/vol_1/chpt_2/2.html is flawed. In a closed system with a pump pushing a constant volume of fluid, an increase in resistance would yield a decrease in pressure and an increase in flow velocity - flow and pressure being inversely proportional.

Any increase in fluid flow resistance will (by definition) reduce flow velocity, since that is a fundamental definition of resistance, that is to resist movement. If you make a good argument then the book might be updated to reflect this.
