Electromagnetism as a property of spacetime...

... we thought that perhaps we are talking about the same governing equation, which could describe both electromagnetism and gravitation. Indeed, it becomes clear that Maxwell's equations hide inside the Einstein field equations of general relativity. The metric tensor of spacetime tells us how lengths determine in spacetime. The metric tensor also thus determines the curvature properties of spacetime. Curvature is what we feel as "force." In addition, energy and curvature relate to each other through the Einstein field equations.

Look closely at the picture, it's an inverted Tesla coil with the sparks coming from it's top load.
Hadn't realized that 'till you pointed it out ... one has to admit that the editor's laziness at finding an adequate image for the article had the silver lining of bringing a little creativity.

You can quibble about if it's a appropriate photo for the subject but the physical orientation in space of the multiplier coil and discharge system has zero implications for the operation of the device if the relationship to the 'ground plane to the corona shield and discharge electrodes remains the same. I rather like this setup, it has a clearer point of view of the discharge space.

Only if the top load is far enough away from the ground, For a large coil like that they are equipped with a ground rod. The little toy ones just use the power cords ground conductor, but a real large coil has to be grounded. Or should be.
