Now I'm thinking of a conscientious junior software engineer who programs it to return to base for a battery recharge if it can't find its target.

 

I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this thread, I got all the information I need, and now I understand a few things better than before. I haven’t decided which way to go, but most likely it will be an inverter fridge and an AGM battery at first, and I’ll probably charge them from the mains at first. That will be a relatively budget friendly solution to replace the generator, which I really don’t like. That should allow me to decide later if it’s worth adding solar or wind.
