DPDT Switch wiring and not backfeeding

It's you who fixated on the neutral wire and insisted it needed to be switched.
I posted a solution that didn't need to switch the neutral (which is the only way to do what you wanted with a DPDT switch).

But after that ingratitude, I'll certainly try to remember not to attempt to help you if you ever post another question. :p

that diagram you posted makes no sense at all to me, the fan is hooked up to both terminals on the same side of the switch? the LED connected to only a single terminal? and two power sources?

I don't know why it's designed this way, I couldn't tell you what was going through their heads when they decided to throw in a DPST and switch both legs of the source except for the singular reason that the switch is illuminated when you plug it in. Beyond that there is no reason it should be wired this way.

This should work. When switch is up, current will flow to fan and through D1 to the LED. When switch is down, current will flow to LED, but D1 will block current going back to motor.
