Hi all, I am a new member here, and i am in the middle of alittle project making a A/B selector. I am by no means an electrical engineer which is why I seem to be at a stand still. I already have my enclosure, and all materials.
I am building this to be able to select from 2 different audio interfaces, My speakers are already going through a samson "C-Control" a/b/c selector, My goal is to take the Main outs (Left and Right TRS 1/4") into the a/b project box, and then have my Audiobox interface "A" Left and Right coming out of the box in to the main outs of the interface, and repeat for my second audio interface "B" from the box into "B" interface main outs.

I have my DPDT switch, and my 6 1/4 female panel mounts. I am just unaware of how to wire the connections.. I know that the TIP is my lead, but i am unsure of how to wire it correctly, i have looked at other a/b schematics but still get lost as far has how A LEFT/ Right and how B Left / right stay separated?

I apologize that i may not be explaining this correctly as well
Thanks for your time!

Also the switch i have right now is a Center off DPDT 3A 125 VAC/1A 250 VAC

I assume you are RCA jacks. The center lead is what you want to switch.
The attached picture shows the back of the switch, and suggested wiringDPDT SWITCH.jpg

I am using 1/4" TRS jacks, so from what I understand from that the leads (TIP /hot.. red wire) from device 1 Left goes to 1 and Right goes to 2,
Then device 2 leads go to 3&4 then D3 5,6? What about the "R" eiri

I am using 1/4 TRS female jacks
And from what I understand from this is that the leads (Tips) from D1 go to 1 & 2 making 1 L and 2 R or vice versa,
then the Leads from D2 go to 3 & 4, and Leads from D3 go to 5 & 6? Where do the "Ring"connections go since the Sleeve is ground and Im using a metal enclosure.

attached are some photos of what I have RED = TIP / LEAD... Yellow = Ring / negative?
In = Device 1 IMG_4775.JPG IMG_4777.JPG IMG_4778.JPG
A = Device 2
B= Device 3

& Thank you for the help

Here is a schematic that I drew, I have some free software that I have been using for sometime.
The switch shown is 2pole 4 position. It is a rotary switch. If you are in the US and willing to pay postage, I have a new switch that I can
send you. It is a 2pole 6 position, but it has a stop so it will on rotate 4 positions.
I hope this schematic is helpfull, sorry for the delay time in answering your post.2P4POS SWITCH.jpg

Thank you very much, Now im a little confused on which is what device, Just to be sure device 1 is on the right hand side correct?
Sorry for my lack of knowledge on this stuff, Im a Audio student and we are required to take an electronics class, I feel as though my professor did not go in too much depth about switches in either of the classes.. after all he is the one who told me I needed a DPDT switch, but i could not make sense of how, and now i know that it would not have worked since im using all stereo 1/4 jacks.

I would buy the switch off of you but I'm hoping radio shack next to my school has one for tomorrow (thursday) in order to start building it during lab time for the class (its a class assignment so i figured i might as well build something i can use !)

i'm also confused as which of the 4 on the left are Device2 Left & Right, & Device3 Left and Right If the right is Device1

Here is a modified schematic. J1 on the right side is the source, and J2 thru J5 on the left side are the 4 different jacks that the left
and right audio is switch to. When looking at the schematic you will notice that terminal 1 of both sections of the switch goes to J2 and terminal 2 goes to J3 and so forth.
Radio Shack may have the switch you need. The symbols in these two recent schematics are typical of 1/4" 3 contact jacks.2P4pos switch B.jpg

Got it... & what about terminal connections on the dp4t or dp6t switch ?

I figured out why I'm so confused. I need a 4P4T switch.. radio shack does not have any in stock. I think I may do 2 - DPDT switches instead just to try and finish this up today
