I think we're loosing track of this thread. Nobody's shooting anybody with anything into anyone's behind.

The dog barking ultrasonic deterrent is working fairly well. I'm still in Vegas and don't know how things have been going these past few days, but when I get home I'll update you how well it's working - IF it's working. Till then lets stop talking about harming anyone or anything.

Just got home. No dogs barking. SO NICE! AND it's time for kids to be coming home from school, that's usually when the barking is the worst.

 

Last update on this project: For those of you interested in how well this works - I have to say it doesn't work very well at all. One of the big reasons why my neighbors dogs have been much more quiet is because the German Shepherd is no longer there. The medium sized Blue Healer (hyper animal at that) is still barking, though I would like to think the barking is somewhat less.

So to say - I am not convinced this was a worth while project, but it did make the wife happy(er). Who knows! Maybe it IS reducing the amount of barking.

The open plan phone box up the road from me faces into the rain bearing wind - when it gets soaked, it emits a high pitch tone and all the dogs in a large radius bark relentlessly.

It took a while - but they did eventually get it sorted.

Haven't seen an old red phone box for a long time - they only put a few new boxes in places of the ones taken away.

I tried Pulsing the tone if the dog barked twice it would pulls back the same number of times.
Still no luck. I was controlling it with a Keyence PLC
burned up two tweeters running 60 watts thru them replaced them and started the pulsing thing.
No change what so ever.
Next I'm going to record his bark and play it back. ran some tests and it makes him keep barking.
After their done doing drugs and need some sleep I will keep it barking untill they yell at it.
I did not try changing the pitch I use an audio generator for the tone. I did try 13 khz thru 20 khz though.

Notice carefully in the description that it claims to "HELP" stop dog barking. Doesn't say it "STOPS" the barking - it HELPS. It's up to you to define how well it - um - helps.

 

Keep in mind that babies could result very sensible to that US. Heard that many times and I would not risk exposing a baby to that awful experience.

Not sure I'd agree with that statement. However, I must honestly admit I don't know the answer to that for sure.

To alleviate your concern, there are no children in my yard or in any of the yards where dogs bark all day. Or used to bark all day. The device DOES have a warning about being too close to the emitter when it's operating. Even if you can't hear the ultrasonic frequencies it CAN cause harm. Well, maybe. Maybe not. But it's probably like those other statements that say "Product X kills 99.9 percent of germs." Why only 99.9 % ? ? ? Because if you don't use it properly you could expose yourself to germs. Meaning that if they claimed it killed 100% of germs and you got sick - they'd be liable. So I think the warning is more about protecting themselves from claims that their product has harmed someone. Legally they can say "We put a warning on the product. If you harmed yourself it's your fault, not ours." In other words, you can't sue them for your stupidity. Unless you're at MacDonalds and spill hot coffee on yourself for some reason.

Can it harm hearing? I don't know. Possibly. But they say there's a safe distance limit, so I'd think babies (should they be milling about in the yard) are probably not a valid concern.

 

I promise you the dogs will get the message...When they bark, their ears will hurt for a moment.

Do not place the transducer closer than 6 feet from the closest point where you mount it (follow the instructions), if you injure the dogs or cause them go deaf, you may be in for a visit to the courthouse and/or a large vet bill. Do not use this on menacing dogs.

As per my suggestion Whistle to stop a dog from barking can also be used which can be effective in long run. you just need to make them understand regarding whistle training.

This is an old thread and the problem has been solved. But thank you for responding. The sonic bark deterrent device has helped some. Not as effective as I would have hoped, but it has helped.
