Back in '81, I was an exchange student in LaGrange, OH... I was very surprised to learn that the teachers could actually spank you with a paddle! (I was told it hurt real bad), even if you were an 18 year-old senior! ... talk about modern teaching psychology...
About 150,000 kid get paddled each year. I'm sure they all turn out ok.

In a completely unrelated story - about 200,000 are convicted and sent to prison each year in the US.

Did your parents send you there as part of a sensory depravation experiment?

Actually, it was one of the most gratifying experiences in my life... I had never had the chance of witnessing "small town America" until then...
being a city boy that has an innate dislike for crowds... I absolutely loved it

Guess I was born in the wrong side of the world... and in the wrong century too!

I grew up in a Midwestern farm town of 400 people. Don't make me go back.

When I was in elementary school, it was still acceptable for teachers to throw you up against a wall, hit the back of your hand with a ruler, and the principal had a paddle.
When I was a kid, the teacher could eventually have the punished kid, standing in front of the class, near her desk maybe for half an hour.

Happened to me, much to my shame thus I still remember it.

The reason (true): I was asking too many questions. Even today, when I am about to ask questions something says to me that better I don't.

Detail to color the picture: my father was the principal.

I suppose we all have a story to tell...
Yup. Got spanked a few times with "THE EDUCATOR". A paddle that was about two feet long and about 5 inches wide. Had holes drilled in it, about a half to 3/4 inches to make it lighter and faster. A couple times my teacher SHOOK me. She'd say "I'M GOING TO SHAKE YOU TILL YOUR SHOES FALL OFF!" And they DID fall off. Today you shake a child you can go to prison. The potential for brain dama - - - OH THAT EXPLAINS IT!

Never-mind.

Why is Arkansas pronounced "Arc - can - saw" when Kansas (same as Arkansas minus the "AR") is pronounced "Can's - ass"?

Wouldn't Kansas be pronounced "Can - saw"?
Or would
Arkansas pronounced "Arc - can's - ass"?

See! this is probably why I got beaten and shaken.

Funny. I've often wondered the same thing.
Do you think it could be one of those rules like I before E except after C?:)

Good fences make good neighbors. ;)

As for the dogs; if things are already unpleasant between you and your neighbors, then just put some large live animal traps in your yard. When you trap the dogs, call animal control and tell them you've trapped a stray in your yard; or haul them to the local pound and turn them in as strays.

OK, back to the thread:

What would be a good regulator ( or regulator circuit ) that I can get 10 volts out of? My fresh 9 volt battery is 9.6 volts, so I don't think 10 volts would present any problem to the electronics in the Sonic Bark.

We have good fences. It's the barking from the other side that's annoying as hell. But speaking of capturing and calling - we had a cat that would come into our house repeatedly and take our cat's food. We trapped the cat (humanely) and called animal control. They came and picked up the cat. Within two hours the cat was again out on my street. AGAIN the cat was captured inside my home. My wife gave the cat a bath. The cat has not been in my house since. However, it still comes into my yard and taunts my cats. Animal control around here is as useful as a nylon condom. Stops nothing.

There are no leash laws for cats in my area. My male cat chases them off. When they fight, sometimes he wins and sometimes he loses.

Need a regulator or regulator circuit recommendation please. I want 10 V, less than 1 amp.

[edit] 500 mA would suffice.
