Has anyone heard about the term "smart diode" used in earth continuity relays?

What is the difference between a smart diode and a normal diode?

Could be referring to pilot core protection, such as used in mining operations to respond to faults or damage in trailing power cables.

Yes, they are used in mining sector to check earth continuity. The usual idea is to check earth continuity (look for a diode or smart diode). You send a positive pulse and look for a low voltage because the diode is forward biased and then you send the negative pulse and see open circuit (as the diode is reverse biased). Then you transmit power.
I know this much but can anyone give me any design/circuit for this smart diode stuff used to check earth continuity for equipments used in mining sector.

You can either get angry or get smart.

You were already asked by WBahn to provide some link to where such a smart diode was specifically mentioned.

You didn't respond. It would help if you were able to provide that information or link. Then you won't have to feel you have been teased.

The relay data makes no mention of a smart diode. In fact on page 7 the data sheet suggests using a 1N4007 1000V 1A diode. That's an ordinary commonly used silicon diode.
