Hey everyone. i have read lot of posts and articles but still couldn't understand the fundamental difference between an ESC and a BLDC motor driver.

1. Why does the ESC require a calibration and setup in the beginning whereas the driver is just plug and play?
2. Why do ESCs have such high current ratings such as 120A whereas drivers have around probably 15A or so?
3. Does this mean the ESCs will actually provide 120 amps to the motor and the driver will only provide 15 amps?

Thanks in advance

The area of BLDC motors and drives and the term ESC is usually confined to the RC world, they both carry out a similar function in their own way, but there are so many variations that the term in and of itself does not really convey or define any particular details.
BLDC motors cover the gamut of RC as already noted, to AC Fan motors PC drives and servo motors etc, just for a few.
Max.
